Cool Sleep,
for Hot Sleepers.

Founding and designing a Brooklyn-born DTC sleep brand from scratch — wordmark, packaging, photography direction, the four-product line, and the Shopify storefront. The bet was simple: maybe hot sleepers don't need a new mattress, just a better layer on top of one.

Mintzzz brand world — beds, hands, jumping, the product in everyday life
Founded in Brooklyn

Cool sleep, also a design problem.

Most cooling sleep products on the market are full mattresses — large, expensive, and slow to ship. Mintzzz tried the opposite approach: focus on the cooling layer itself, and let it work on top of any bed someone already owns.

Founded in Brooklyn with a simple mission: deliver products that combine cooling technology with affordable, homey design — so the cooling tech doesn't have to look medical or cost a small fortune.

Chill-Pad on a bed with model — lifestyle shot

A category mostly focused on mattresses — with less attention on the layer on top.

The problem we saw

Cooling sleep products often felt clinical or expensive.

Existing options tended to look medical, cost as much as a new mattress, or both — leaving hot sleepers without much in between.

The approach we tried

Real cooling tech, paired with a warmer design language.

Mintzzz pairs lab-tested cooling fabrics with packaging, color, and writing that's meant to feel at home in a Brooklyn apartment.

Benefits of sleeping cool
  • Regulated body temperature
  • Reduced night sweats
  • Improved REM sleep
  • Lower cortisol & stress
  • Reduced skin irritation

A chunky wordmark, a single mint, and a navy to anchor everything.

The identity is built around three things: a lowercase wordmark that visually slides toward sleep, a saturated mint that signals "cool," and a navy that keeps it grounded.

DM Sans set heavy and tight. Bold rounded sans-serif used for everything — headlines, packaging, ad copy. Friendly enough to feel like a brand a friend would buy.

From physical brand to a real, shipping e-commerce storefront.

Designed and built mintzzz.com on Shopify — every page, every interaction, every mobile fallback. The whole site is live, indexed, and processing real orders today.

The full digital surface, designed end-to-end.

I owned every screen of the storefront — information architecture, homepage hero, product detail pages, cart, checkout customizations, and mobile responsive treatment.

The constraint was Shopify's templating system, which means every design decision had to translate to a real, deployable theme. The output isn't a Figma file — it's a live commerce flow with 3,000+ verified 5-star reviews behind it.

Three goals shaped every page: make the cooling claim believable, make trying it feel risk-free, and make the brand feel at home in a bedroom, not a laboratory.

The homepage moves visitors from "what is this" to "add to cart" in one scroll.

Build the cooling claim, then prove it three ways.

Visitors arrive cold. Within the first two scrolls they should know what Mintzzz is, why hot sleep is solvable, and that 3,000+ people already bought.

  • Top promo strip"Hey hot sleeper — free shipping" — speaks directly to the target persona before the visitor even reads the hero.
  • Hero with hot-sleeper hook"Cool sleep for hot sleepers" + the Q-MAX 0.48 lab certification immediately answers "is this real?"
  • 3,000+ 5-star reviews barSocial proof placed right under the hero CTA — borrowed from DTC mattress brands (Casper, Helix) that pioneered this pattern.
  • Three trust pillars30-night trial · industry research · 1-year warranty. Reduces purchase risk before pricing comes up.
  • Product cards with colorway dotsInline color picker on the card itself, so visitors see variant options without clicking through.
  • "Hot Sleeper? Chill Pad is designed for you"Feature section deepening the cooling proof: Cooling Certified, Deploys in Seconds, Cloud-like Softness.
  • Reviews carouselCustomer voice, not brand voice — the lift comes from real strangers describing the result.

The Chill Pad PDP is the single most-trafficked page on the site. Every pixel is doing a job.

Above the fold: enough to buy without scrolling.

The entire purchase decision can happen above the fold — gallery, price, sizes, colors, trust strip, CTA. Below the fold is for the visitors who need more convincing.

  • 10-image galleryProduct in Cool Mint and Arctic White, plus packaging shot, in-context bedroom shot, fabric close-up. Each image earns a tab.
  • "Best Seller" badgeCustom badge overlaid on the gallery — a small social-proof anchor before the visitor reads anything.
  • Headline + reviews + short hookTitle, "3,000+ 5-star reviews," then a one-line value pitch ("Fix hot sleep") — three reasons to keep reading.
  • 3-icon feature stripCooling Effect · Super Comfy · Easy to Clean. Scannable in two seconds, memorable longer.
  • Size + Color pickers with dimensions inlineTwin / Queen / King with the inches shown on the button — no math required, no second click.
  • Trust strip: 30-night · 1-year warranty · free shippingThe three biggest purchase blockers, answered before the CTA.
  • Accordion: Care Guide · Shipping & ReturnsDetailed copy collapsed so it doesn't pad the fold — available for the visitor who needs it.
  • Below-fold storytelling"Hot Sleepers, this is it" → "Colder than your bed (20× cooler than memory foam)" → "Deploy in seconds" → reviews → FAQ. A linear conversion path for visitors who didn't buy on the fold.

Mobile drives over two-thirds of traffic. Every page was designed mobile-first.

Most DTC sleep brands still design desktop-first then "responsive it down" — which is why their mobile PDPs feel awkward. Mintzzz inverted the workflow: every page was sketched at 375px first, then expanded.

375
Single-column reflow

Gallery stacks above product info on phone. No carousels mid-content — vertical scrolling is the only interaction.

Sticky add-to-cart

Add-to-cart sticks to the bottom of the viewport on PDP, so the buy button is always one thumb-tap away during long scrolls.

Drawer navigation

The full nav collapses into a drawer. Header strips down to logo, search, cart — three things, three thumbs.

44
44px tap targets

Every interactive element — color swatches, size buttons, cart icon — meets Apple's 44px minimum, so nothing requires a precision tap.

+
Accordion-heavy detail pages

Care, shipping, FAQ — all collapsed by default. The visitor pulls the info they want without scrolling past walls of text they don't.

Above-fold CTA priority

On mobile the gallery is compressed and the title + price + picker + buy button sit in the visible viewport before any tap.

The packaging, the photography, and the site all speak the same brand grammar.

A visitor who saw a Mintzzz box on Instagram and lands on the homepage should feel zero seam between the two. Same palette, same type, same voice, same micro-details.

#79E1BF
Mint as the system color

The packaging mint becomes the site's primary CTA color, badge color, and cool-sleep proof color.

Navy as ink + button

Navy from the brand grounds every body text block, button, and footer surface across the site.

Aa
DM Sans, heavy + tight

Same family used on packaging — headlines set heavy, body set medium. One typeface, three scales.

Wave motif from the box

The kraft-printed wave pattern from the box recurs as section dividers and hero accents on the site.

A complete kit — bed, bag, brochure, all in one box.

Designed the packaging system end to end. The unboxing is the first physical product experience a customer has with the brand, so I treated it like a small piece of choreography.

Three things I wanted every product in the line to be.

Cooling, certified

Real numbers behind any cooling claim — every product is SGS lab tested rather than just marketed as "cool."

Deploy in seconds

No setup, no installation. Strap on the bed in seconds. Roll up to travel. The aim was to reduce the friction of "should I try this tonight?"

~
Soft, not plasticky

A lot of cool-touch fabrics feel synthetic. I spent time tuning the line so the cooling and the softness could coexist.
